Job listings are a more boring source, and that's why they're useful: they show what employers are posting today.

Every number here is as of 16 Oct 2026, from JobRise's live job listings: public listings crawled from company career sites, job boards and job APIs, with duplicates removed.

Two kinds of remote

Remote listings come in two kinds, and they behave differently.

Remote within a country. The location says something like "Remote, USA". JobRise counts these under that country.

Remote with no single country. The location says "Remote", "Worldwide" or names a region or a list of countries. JobRise keeps these in a separate remote pool. On 16 Oct 2026 it held 23,227 open listings.

Worldwide, across sources that mark remote work, 20% of listings are remote: 143,633 of 706,617, per the JobRise global hiring report. Only about 23,200 of those sit in the no-single-country pool. The other 84% or so are tied to one country.

And don't read the pool as "open to anyone". In the full listing pages, 13,917 of its 23,249 listings just said "Remote" or "Telecommute". 2,284 mentioned the US. Only 617 said anywhere, worldwide or global. Read the listing before you assume you can apply.

Remote share by category

This pools five big English-speaking markets: the US, UK, Canada, India and Australia. Each category gets two numbers:

All marking sources: every source that says whether a job is remote (the method JobRise's hiring reports use).

Career sites only: employer career sites like Workday, Greenhouse, Ashby and Lever.

The order is what you'd guess: desk jobs are remote far more often than hands-on work. On career sites, Data & AI comes out on top at 11.5%.

The gap between the columns matters more. Most remote listings come from remote-only job boards. In the US, 55,429 of 65,392 remote listings in the named categories (85%) came from boards like that, 55,161 from Himalayas alone. On employer career sites, remote is a small minority: 4.5% of all listings across the five markets.

Neither column is the full picture. Career sites sometimes leave "remote" out of the location line, and remote boards exist to collect remote roles. So one column runs low and the other runs high.

For tech in particular, across nine countries (the five above plus Germany, the Netherlands, the UAE and Singapore), 8.4% of Software and Data & AI listings on career sites say remote: 3,346 of 40,064. Canada was highest at 16.9%, then the US at 9.0% and the UK at 8.3%. Germany was at 6.7%, India 4.4% and Singapore 1.6%.

What's in the no-single-country pool

By category: Data & AI 4,351, Software 3,205, Sales 2,230, Marketing 1,777, Healthcare 1,540, Operations 1,399, HR 1,120, Engineering 1,063, Finance 854, Customer support 741 and Design 608. Software and Data & AI together are about a third of the pool (7,556 of 23,227).

One name stands out. Prolific posted 3,861 listings in the pool, 2,490 of them in Data & AI, mostly AI training tasks listed once per language and country ("AI Trainer - Polish" and similar). Meridial and Invisible Technologies also post mostly AI trainer projects. That's paid task work. It can be fine for flexible income, but it isn't a remote engineering job.

In the no-single-country pool, the biggest tech posters after Prolific were Canonical (232), Meridial (189), BC Tecnología (76), Xperteez Technology (63) and Invisible Technologies (58). CACI (54), Affirm (52) and Binance (51) also made the top ten.

How to filter for remote roles on JobRise

Start at the remote software jobs page, or switch category at the top: Data & AI, Design, Marketing and the rest.

Search inside it. The search box matches words in job titles. "python" on the remote software page returned 82 listings when I checked.

Read the location line. "Remote (Germany, Portugal)" means those countries. "US Remote" means the US. "Remote" alone means you need to read the listing.

For remote work inside your own country, use your country's pages. Those listings show locations like "Remote, USA".

Set an alert. Each page has a "Get new jobs like these by email" box. It's free, with one-click unsubscribe.

Tips

Check eligibility first. About 84% of remote listings are tied to one country, and the pool includes roles limited to a region or a short list of countries. A minute on the listing saves an application that can't go anywhere.

Use remote boards and career sites. Boards carry most remote listings. The career-site table above shows which employers post remote roles themselves. Following 10 to 20 of them directly gives you a short list to check each week.

Pick a field where remote is common. Data & AI, marketing and customer support have the highest career-site remote shares, with software and sales close behind. If remote matters most to you, those fields give you the most options.

Separate gigs from jobs. AI trainer listings are common in the remote pool. Decide if you want task work before you spend time on them.

Match your resume to each listing. A remote role open to several countries can draw applicants from all of them, so a generic resume faces more competition. JobRise's free tools include an ATS resume checker and a cover letter generator.

Data note

As of 16 Oct 2026, from JobRise's live job listings: public listings crawled from career sites, job boards and job APIs. Duplicates are removed (matched on company and job title), and each job counts once.

Page counts (the 23,227 pool, category counts, the 20% worldwide share) have a data timestamp of 10:07 UTC. Category shares, location wording and company rankings come from the full listing pages, fetched between 10:07 and 13:00 UTC, so a few totals differ slightly.

Remote means the location says remote, anywhere, worldwide, work from home or similar. Roles that are remote but don't say so in the location are missed.

The "Other" category isn't included in the category table. Counts change daily as jobs open and close.

Headlines won't tell you. Real listings can.

So here's a snapshot. Every number below is as of 16 Oct 2026, from JobRise's live job listings. JobRise collects public listings from employer career pages, national job boards and job APIs, removes duplicates, and counts what is open right now. On the day we pulled this, that was 2,723,084 open jobs worldwide. 421,343 of them were posted in the previous 7 days.

One warning first. How many jobs a country shows depends a lot on which sources cover it. That changes how you should read every number here, so it comes right after the first chart.

The nine countries at a glance

Germany: 888,202 open jobs

United States: 396,981

Netherlands: 243,256

Singapore: 80,332

United Kingdom: 71,109

India: 54,107

Canada: 30,843

Australia: 7,808

UAE: 2,788

Why Germany looks so big

Germany shows more than twice as many open listings as the US. That does not mean Germany is hiring twice as many people.

97% of the German listings come from one source, the job board of the German federal employment agency (Arbeitsagentur). It carries a huge number of trade, care, retail and trainee roles. The Netherlands works the same way: 97% of its listings come from EURES, the EU's job mobility portal. Singapore gets 89% from MyCareersFuture, its national job portal.

The US, Canada and Australia mostly come from company career sites (Workday, Greenhouse, Ashby and similar) plus a few public boards. The UK is a mix of both. Different pipes, different mix of jobs.

So compare categories and shares inside a country. Don't compare raw totals between countries as if they measured market size.

Country by country

United States, 396,981 open jobs. Healthcare leads with 50,834 (13%), then sales with 39,895 and software with 31,618. 22% of open listings were posted in the last 7 days. The biggest employers in the data are Walmart (7,907), JPMorgan Chase (5,033) and Google (4,278). New York has 14,067 open jobs and San Francisco 10,427.

United Kingdom, 71,109. Healthcare again, with 12,917 (18%). NHS Jobs alone supplies 10,615 UK listings. Education is second at 6,172. London holds 21% of all UK listings (14,604), and 28% of UK listings were posted in the last week.

Germany, 888,202. The top three are skilled trades (148,629), internships and trainee roles (129,120) and healthcare (113,155). Berlin has 38,000 open jobs, more than any other city in the whole dataset. Only 9.1% were posted in the last 7 days, the lowest of the nine countries.

India, 54,107. India is the only one of the nine where software is the biggest category: 10,986 jobs, 20% of the total. Data and AI adds another 4,865. Bengaluru alone has 22% of India's listings (11,961). The top 15 employers hold 38% of everything open, led by Reliance Jio (2,960), Wipro (2,672), HCL Technologies (1,990) and Amazon (1,970).

Canada, 30,843. Sales (3,196) and software (3,151) are almost tied at the top. Canada had the freshest listings of the nine: 37% were posted in the last 7 days. Toronto holds 12% (3,714). Canada also had the highest remote share, 24%.

Australia, 7,808. A smaller sample. Healthcare (908) and education (905) lead. The single biggest employer name is "Government schools" with 964 listings, 12% of the country's total. Sydney has 19% (1,450).

Netherlands, 243,256. 42% of listings don't match any of our category rules and sit in "Other". Of the rest, logistics (22,623), skilled trades (21,918) and manufacturing (18,799) lead. Only 2,166 listings name Amsterdam, so city-level numbers here are thin.

UAE, 2,788. Small, so read it as a hint, not a census. Dubai has 51% of listings (1,432) and Abu Dhabi 440. Sales (364) and finance (256) lead. The top 15 employers hold 52% of all listings, led by the Government of Dubai (317) and Al Futtaim (206).

Singapore, 80,332. Operations (8,416) and engineering (8,172) lead, then sales and software. 90% of open listings were posted in the last 30 days. Many of the top names are recruitment agencies, led by Recruit Express (3,178). Micron (1,294) and Google (369) are the biggest direct employers in the top 10.

Remote work: about one in five, where it's tracked

Not every source says whether a job is remote, so remote share only counts the sources that do. Across those, 20% of listings worldwide are remote (143,633 of 706,617).

By country: Canada 24%, Australia 21%, US 20%, Germany 18%, UK 15%, India 14%, UAE 14%, Singapore 8% and the Netherlands 7.9%. The base differs a lot. In the US it's 366,184 of 396,981 listings. In Germany it's only 29,069 of 888,202, so the German figure describes company career sites, not the national board.

Most of these remote roles still want you to live in that country. A remote job counted under Canada usually means remote within Canada. So remote widens your choice of city more than your choice of country.

What this means for your search

Pick a market on fit, not volume. The biggest totals are full of trades, care, logistics and trainee roles, often in the local language. If you're an English-speaking office worker, the US, UK, Canada and Australia numbers are closer to what you'll actually apply for.

Go where your field is a big slice. In India, software is 20% of listings. In the UK and Australia, healthcare and education lead. In Canada, sales and software are level. A role that makes up a big share of local demand gives you more doors to knock on.

Concentrated markets reward a target list. When 15 employers hold 38% of listings (India) or 52% (UAE), a list of 20 target companies and their career pages covers a big part of the market. In the Netherlands the top 15 hold 0.8%, so a wide search works better there.

Check often where listings are fresh. In Canada 37% of open listings are under a week old, in Australia 35%. When new roles make up that much of what's open, a weekly check means you see many roles late.

Treat remote as a city question. Remote helps if you live far from the big hubs. It rarely helps you move abroad.

How to use job alerts

You don't need to refresh job boards all day. On JobRise, every country and category page has a "Get new jobs like these by email" box.

Open the page for your country and field, for example software jobs in Canada.

Use the search box on that page to narrow it by title words, like "nurse" or "data analyst".

Put your email in the alert box. It's free, and you can unsubscribe in one click.

Set one alert per role and country you would really accept. Two or three focused alerts beat ten noisy ones.

When an alert lands, decide the same day: apply, save or skip.

Before you apply, check your resume against the job description. JobRise has free tools for that, including an ATS resume checker, a cover letter generator and mock interviews. For the full country reports with employers, cities and daily posting charts, see the JobRise Hiring Report.

Data note

All numbers are as of 16 Oct 2026 (data timestamp 10:07 UTC), from JobRise's live job listings: public listings crawled from employer career pages, national job boards and public job APIs.

Duplicates are removed. A role listed on several sources counts once, matched on company and job title, in the country of its location.

Counts change daily as jobs open and close. Coverage differs by country, as the Germany, Netherlands and Singapore notes show, so raw totals are not a measure of market size.

"Posted in the last 7 days" uses the employer's posting date, or the date JobRise first saw the listing when the employer gives none.

Categories come from keyword rules on job titles and departments. Roles that match no rule count as Other. Remote share only counts sources that mark remote work.
